Arts and Humanities Careers

What you need to know

1. 1
BA is India's largest degree: more than 1 crore students, and more than half of them women. Many of India's IAS officers, journalists, psychologists, lawyers, designers and teachers studied Arts.
2. 2
Arts gives you subjects about people and society: history, political science, geography, economics, psychology, sociology, languages and the arts. You can add Maths too.
3. 3
Arts keeps many doors open: civil services, law (CLAT), design (NID, NIFT, UCEED), hotel management and most government jobs accept any stream.
4. 4
The honest part: a plain BA alone pays modestly. What makes the difference is skills (English, computers, writing), internships, a good postgraduate course or a competitive exam.
