Overview
Paramedical and Pharmacy
Healthcare careers beyond MBBS
What you need to know
- 1For every doctor, a hospital needs many pharmacists, lab technicians, radiographers, operation theatre technicians, physiotherapists and optometrists. India is short of lakhs of them.
- 2Most of these courses need Class 12 with Biology (some accept Maths too), and many have no NEET. Courses run from a 2-year diploma to a 4–6 year degree.
- 3Pharmacy is regulated by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI); most other allied health courses by the new National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP).
- 4Big warning: many fake "paramedical councils" sell worthless certificates. Check every college and course before you pay.
