After Graduation: All Options in India

Overview

After graduation

Every option in one map

What you need to know

1
After a degree there are five big roads: study more (master's, MBA, law, B.Ed, PhD), a government job, a private job, paid training (apprenticeship or internship), or your own work (business, freelancing).
2
Your degree subject matters less than you think. CAT, UPSC, SSC, bank exams and the 3-year LLB accept any degree, and GATE is now open to BA, B.Com and B.Sc students too.
3
Most entrance tests let final-year students apply, so start planning in your last year, not after the result.
4
Each branch below links to a detailed Vaidaani roadmap for that path.

First, how to choose

Three honest questions

What you need to know

1
Do you need to earn soon? Then look first at jobs, paid apprenticeships and internships. You can study later, even part-time or by distance.
2
Do you love your subject? A master's, NET and PhD can lead to research and college teaching. Do you want to manage or lead? Look at MBA and government officer exams.
3
Many students do both: a job or apprenticeship plus one exam a year. Feeling lost or stressed? Call Tele-MANAS 14416: free, 24×7.

Other MBA tests, and is it worth it?

What you need to know

1
CMAT (by NTA, a government agency) is accepted by AICTE-approved colleges. XAT (by XLRI) and MAT (by AIMA) are private tests, used by many private B-schools.
2
States have their own tests, for example MAH-MBA/MMS CET in Maharashtra, ICET in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and TANCET in Tamil Nadu. Government colleges through these cost far less.
3
A good MBA college can change your pay a lot. A weak, costly one often does not. Check the real placement record and AICTE approval before paying. You can also work first and take an MBA test later.

Red flags

1930Lost money? Call

What you need to know

1
A real company never asks for money for an interview, training kit, laptop or "security deposit". Be careful of institutes that promise a "100% placement guarantee" for a big fee.
2
Got an offer letter? Call the company on the number from its own website, not the one in the letter or email.
3
"Like videos, write reviews and earn" task jobs pay a little first, then ask you to deposit money. You lose it all. Report fraud calls and messages on Sanchar Saathi (Chakshu).
4
Fake "missions" copy ministry names: in 2025 the Rural Development Ministry warned about a fake recruitment drive run from .com websites. Apply only on official sites (usually .gov.in or .nic.in) and check doubtful notices with PIB Fact Check.
