There is no single required degree. Many people start as an assistant or crew member and learn on the job. A BBA, B.Voc or MBA can help later.

What you need to know

Some universities run a BBA, a B.Voc (a 3-year skill degree) or an MBA in event management (reported). Only a university can give a degree: check it on the UGC website. A business school's PGDM should be AICTE-approved.

A private institute that is not a university can give only its own certificate. That can teach skills, but it is not a degree.

What you need to know

The official Event Planner / Event Manager qualification (NSQF level 5) expects experience first: a graduate with 1 year, a diploma holder with 3 years, or Class 12 with 4 years. Minimum age 21.

Technical roles start lower. Sound Assistant (NSQF level 3) needs Class 10 (or Class 8 with ITI) and 1 year of experience, age 18 or more.

Lights, sound, stage building, wiring and generators need trained hands. An ITI trade such as electrician gives a strong base for this side of events.

Playing songs at concerts, shows and company events usually needs licences: IPRS for the music and lyrics, and bodies like PPL for recorded songs (reported).

For weddings, a 2019 Copyright Office notice says no licence is needed for recorded music at marriage ceremonies and related functions. Music bodies dispute this in court (reported), so ask the venue or a lawyer.
